Sydney

We spent a grand total of 2 days in Sydney. Although it is a lovely city we did find it slightly over rated compared to the places in Australia we had been in so far. We spent the first night in the intresting sounding Glebe Village and met up with a guy who was stuck in Sydney after writing his car off when he collided with a kangaroo! The next morning we moved to the more central Kings Cross, which was pretty seedy, but was full of backpackers so we were with fellow kind. The day was spent looking round the sights of Sydney - the opera house, darling harbour, Sydney Habour bridge the botanical gardens, the Rocks area and a market where one the market traders tried to convince us to move to South Australia and live there for a few years in order to obtain an Australian passport!? It was nice, but we were saving out money for other activities like diving and surfing further up the coast.

The next day was Austrlia day, celebrating the day that Captin Cook 'discovered' Austrlia - funny since there was a whole other race already living there. Im not sure how the Aborigines feel about celebrating the first day they started getting percecuted... Anyway, it turned out to be a really cool day. It was another hot sunny day, the first Ive actually started walking around with an umbrella because of the sun! Around Darling Habour and Hyde Park there were music stages set up and it was nice just sitting on the grass with our Dominos pizza listening to music. At one point we went to the radio stage - which was a bit like Radio1 in Australia, it was funny watching the crowd go crazy for some artist which we'd never heard of. Im not too sure how many people there were actually Australiam, we'd heard that most of the crowd were in fact tourists, but we had a good time all the same. That night we got back to our hostel made some dinner and headed for coach journey to contiue our journey onwards to Byron Bay which we were looking forward to, and had come highly recommended. x
