Wellington - North Island

Yo...

We arrived in Wellington off the ferry in our car and made our way straight to the biggest attraction is Wellington well actually the biggest crowd puller in NZ actually. Te Papa is the central museum for Maori and western NZ. It was oh so informative, it told us so much information about the Maoris’ that we were unaware of. Also there were loads of cool displays with famous NZ stuff and cool items like a surfboard made entirely of paua shells (exterior) as shown in photo.

Got round to Micks and he really sorted us out for 2 days. In the place we stayed with him there was free internet and laundry (although none needed as all done in Motueka already), double bed and loads of food. Quality! That evening we just went out for some beers and food at the local pub in town. The next morning we had a little sleep in and then made our way in to the city centre to go to visit the zoo and cable car (along with Mick, too). We got to the zoo after a small drive from the centre. There were loads of cool indigenous animals to see, something we both really wanted to do (see the locals – not humans). We saw loads of birds (NZ is famous for its birds), including the kiwi (one legged), tuatara (nocturnal – linked to the dinosaurs), wild dogs, cheetahs, chimps, monkeys etc (loads more obviously). Afterwards we got a bite to eat and then headed off to the cable car for a ride up over Wellington. Lovely views (well not quite as good as I thought, but it was cheap so was cool anyway). Afterwards we drove back to Upper Hutt and had a top notch BBQ back at the home stay (including steak, fat sausages, avocado salad etc). That evening we had a load of beer and wine and chatted with the residents and Mick about the usual travel and NZ stuff.

What a lovely time we both had in Wellington, totally sorted out by Mick (cheers matey).

The next day we made our way on to the next journey of our travels (on to Taupo). Another story in itself…

Peace out people

Sending love through the internet xxx
